Minotti
Founded in 1948 in Seregno, in the Brianza furniture district 25 km north of Milan, and led by three generations of the Minotti family. Roberto and Renato Minotti oversee production; Rodolfo Dordoni has been creative director since 1997. A single Seregno factory produces all upholstery in-house, with timber and metal from vetted workshops within a 50 km radius. Annual turnover exceeded €200 million in 2024, around 70% outside Italy.
B&B Italia
Founded in 1966 in Novedrate, Como province, by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, and a pioneer of industrial polyurethane foam molding — still central to its identity. Part of Design Holding (Investindustrial and Carlyle) since 2018. The 35,000 m² Novedrate facility includes an in-house R&D center. Designers include Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Piero Lissoni and Naoto Fukasawa. Revenue is estimated above €250 million.
Minotti: refined consistency
Collections follow a single creative vision. Dordoni sets the material direction, proportions and color range each year, and every piece responds to that framework — interiors that feel curated without effort. Fabrics lean to natural tones (stone, sand, tobacco, olive); leathers in ~90 controlled colors; timber predominantly dark-stained oak or walnut. Little interest in provocation.
B&B Italia: architectural ambition
Operates more like a publishing house than a single-author studio: each designer brings a distinct language, and the brand provides the engineering to realize it. The result is wider aesthetic range — from Citterio’s disciplined modularity to Urquiola’s textural playfulness. Its 1960s cold-cure foam process enables complex forms competitors struggle to replicate, as in the Bend-Sofa.

Your project has a strong architectural identity and the furniture must hold its own against bold spatial decisions. B&B Italia pieces are more sculptural and individual, comfortable as focal points and across mixed periods — a Camaleonda works in a 1970s villa and a 2026 penthouse alike. That adaptability comes from structural innovation, not surface decoration.
Sometimes neither Minotti nor B&B Italia is the right call
Minotti and B&B Italia define architectural Italian seating, but that register is specific. For softer, comfort-first upholstery you sink into, Flexform or Baxter reads warmer. For design-history reissues — the Le Corbusier and Perriand classics — Cassina is the only real answer. And neither house is built for outdoor or heavy contract use. We say so before a deposit, not after.
